Process Technology of Seaweed Fiber
Seaweed fiber preparation is divided into two main processes: the extraction of seaweed polysaccharide and the preparation of polysaccharide fiber.

1. Moisture-absorbing and moisturizing of Seaweed Fiber
The presence of hydrophilic groups in the fiber macromolecules is the main reason why fibers have the ability to absorb moisture. Since the fiber of seaweed is wet-spun, there are a large number of micropores in the fiber, so it has good water absorption and water retention.
2. Self-flame Retardant
Seaweed fiber is a kind of flame-retardant fiber, self-flame-retardant, with a high degree of carbonization of fibers in the combustion process, leaving the flame that is extinguished and will not start an open flame in the air. The self-flame retardant property of the fiber of seaweed not only eliminates the high cost of flame retardant but also does not produce harmful gases after encountering fire like previous flame retardant materials, which can be said to be the ideal state of flame retardant materials.
3. Electromagnetic Shielding & Anti-Static Capability
The special internal structure of sodium alginate can chelate multivalent metal ions to form stable complexes, and the adsorption of metal ions is very large, and the seaweed fiber after adsorption of metal ions can be used for the preparation of electromagnetic shielding fabrics.
4. Gel Blocking
When the alginate bandage comes into contact with the exudate, the fibers swell considerably and a large amount of exudate remains in the fibers in the gel structure. The expansion of the individual fibers reduces the pore structure between the fibers, and fluid dispersion is stopped. The “gel-blocking” nature of the alginate bandage greatly reduces the dispersion of exudate from the wound and the impregnation of healthy tissue.
5. Biodegradability & Compatibility
Seaweed fiber is a biodegradable fiber, which is friendly to the environment. This solves the problem of environmental pollution. Its biocompatibility allows it to be used as a surgical thread without secondary suture removal, which reduces the patient’s pain.
