Exploring Super Imitation Cotton Fiber

Exploring Super Imitation Cotton: A Magic Fiber

Date: 2024/12/23   By: Winnie

Super imitation cotton is an innovative fabric that combines the excellent properties of cotton and polyester, aiming to compensate for traditional fibers’ shortcomings. It not only has the advantages of natural cotton such as softness, comfort, breathability and moisture absorption, but also overcomes the shortcomings of pure cotton clothing that are easy to deform and fade. Special fiber technology is added during the production process of super-imitation cotton, so that it maintains a cotton-like feel and touch while having the durability and wrinkle resistance of polyester fabrics.

What is Super Imitation Cotton?

The polyester content of super imitation cotton is greater than 85%. It is a differentiated and functional polyester fiber, including filament imitation cotton and staple imitation cotton. To put it more vividly, super imitation cotton fiber imitates cotton in terms of vision, touch and affinity. It is more convenient to use than cotton. It is the product of the mutual integration and integration of polymerization modification spinning, spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing technologies.

Super Imitation Cotton Features

Super imitation cotton has a soft, comfortable touch that mimics the natural texture and feel of cotton and is more durable and wrinkle-resistant than natural cotton.

1. Imitate the hairy feel and bulkiness

Polyester filaments have high bundling properties and a smooth surface. To make the surface form a cotton-like hairy feel, the fiber structure must be changed. At present, there are several ways to improve the hairy feel and bulkiness of polyester: using air network forms to blow the filaments apart, entangle them to form an irregular structure, and use different raw material combinations to form a three-dimensional curled and bulky form. From the perspective of hairy feel, the fineness of the air network deformed imitation cotton filaments is uneven, and the hairy feel varies greatly. The fineness of the imitation cotton filaments of different raw material combinations is uniform, and the hairy feel can only be prominently displayed during post-finishing, and generally does not affect the production of the subsequent process.

2. Mimic the hygroscopicity of cotton fibers

At present, the methods to improve the hygroscopicity of polyester mainly include: using fine denier or ultrafine denier yarn to increase the specific surface area of the fiber and improve the capillary wicking speed; modifying the fiber cross-section to increase moisture absorption and moisture conduction grooves to accelerate the moisture absorption rate; hydrophilic modification of the fiber, adding hydrophilic groups to the fiber, and enhancing the hygroscopic capacity of the fiber.

3. Imitate the luster of cotton fiber

To improve the glossiness of polyester and achieve the effect of cotton fiber, the fiber surface needs to form diffuse reflection to weaken the reflective ability of light. Methods to weaken the gloss include: modifying the fiber surface to reduce its reflective effect on light, absorbing part of the light to form a soft luster, and using fine or ultra-fine denier yarns to improve the diffuse reflection ability and soften the light.

4.Make up for the defects of cotton fiber

The characteristics of polyester are used to make up for the shortcomings of cotton fiber fabrics. For example, polyester has good weather resistance such as light resistance, heat resistance, and mildew resistance, which can make up for the shortcomings of cotton fabrics in terms of durability; polyester has a large initial modulus, is stiff, and is not easy to deform. It has good shape retention, which can make up for the shortcomings of cotton fabrics such as easy wrinkling, easy deformation, and poor wear resistance.

It is also developed according to the different needs of users, different fields of use, and some specific functional requirements. Some even have better performance and use performance than pure cotton fabrics. Using different hydrophilic agents and different cross-sectional shapes to modify the fiber, the hygroscopicity of the super-imitation cotton fiber can have different characteristics to meet the needs of wearing with different amounts of exercise.

How is super imitation cotton imitated?

The cotton-like process involves using advanced textile technology to create fibers that replicate cotton’s soft texture, breathability, and moisture-wicking properties, but with enhanced durability and resistance to issues like pilling or shrinking.

How is super imitation cotton imitated

1. Weaving process

The cotton-like effect of super-imitation cotton fiber depends first on the fabric structure. Because the fiber is fine, the capillary phenomenon is strong, and the special-shaped cross-section shape has good hygroscopicity. However, in the fabric structure, in order to enhance its hygroscopicity, the fabric structure should be designed according to the different application fields of the fabric. Sometimes plain weave is better, and sometimes twill weave is better.

Due to the special properties of super-imitation cotton fiber, the shrinkage characteristics of the fiber during the finishing process are taken into account. The warp and weft density should be properly designed so that the fiber can fully reflect the thickness and fluffy feeling of the fabric after heat shrinkage.

2. Dyeing and finishing process

A large part of the cotton-like effect of super-imitation cotton fiber is reflected through post-finishing. Due to the special properties of the raw materials, in order to enhance the cotton-like effect, it must be treated with an embryo setting so that the fiber can fully shrink and the fluffiness can be more prominent.

Due to the large modulus of polyester, the fabric is relatively stiff, overcoming the shortcomings of pure cotton fabric that is easy to deform and not durable. But if the stiffness is too strong, it will be uncomfortable to wear. To give the fabric a moderately soft feel, it needs to be softened. In the process of heat shrinkage of the fabric, it is stretched and shaped under the condition that the fabric has been fully shrunk to enhance the cotton-like feel of the fabric. After the blanket is finished, the fabric feels fuller and softer, further improving the simulation and wearing performance.
